My husband says I make a really weird noise - the cross between a groan and a snore. Given my druthers, i would take the nocturnal any day - especially now that they are the ONLY type I have. I started having seizures 14 years ago - started with partial complex that evolved into grand mal which then evolved into nocturnal. This sounds JUST LIKE mine for the most part. My neurologist said I have grand mal seizures, but gave me no explanation as to why I seem to have only nocturnal ones. Even if he tries, he can't seem to get me to wake up, and the next day I am very sleepy, tired, and feel like I was beat up. The doctor said I should be turned to the side, to prevent aspirating blood and saliva. I shake, bite both sides of my tongue, and they usually last about 3 to 5 minutes. So far I have had about 8 nocturnal seizures (only type I seem to have) and my husband describes them to me like this: first of all the noise that I make with the back of my tongue is very scary. Well.I was diagnosed 18 months ago at the age of 28. If you ever find out the type of seizure, please let me know. My first neuro thought they were mini-strokes.I was only 15. All the neuros would do when I described them was the ever-famous 'Hmmmm'. They are soo unreal! I still don't know the name of them. Jana - The type of seizure you describe are the kind I use to have when I first started having seizures. I don't know that 'walking it off' in the mornings helps the aching body so much anymore, but it does help me feel better otherwise. I have a hard time getting myself together in the mornings after getting up. And it's humiliating to me each and everytime I do. I wake up feeling like I have been beaten to a pulp with a two by four. They are very physically and emotionally draining for me. In fact they have started up again recently. So I have to agree, even though it was only one, with my experience the night one was much worse. The next one I had was during the day and I was better in about a day and half.

Lets just say that I woke up around 2am with the second one, I had a dislocated jaw again and & felt like my arm was broken. It was my second one just about a week after my first one during the day where I dislocated my jaw.
